15 Weeks

How far along?
15 weeks

How big is baby?
The size of an apple, which when you think about it, isn't really that descriptive. What kind of apple? 20 Ounce? Macintosh? Or those adorable mini apples my supermarket carries?

Total weight gain?
Home scale still reads +2 pounds

Maternity clothes?
I tried to purchase some this week at Old Navy, but left with only a handful of things that weren't officially maternity, just a size up from what I normally wear. It annoys me that a "maternity tank top" is nearly twice the price of a regular tank top. However, I did pick up an amazing maternity maxi dress on the clearance rack at Target - score!

Sleep?
Still need lots...still not getting enough...

Best moment of the week?
Watching my son play corn hole with Jim Kelly last weekend! Definitely a moment to remember!

Food cravings?
 All foods. All the time.

Food aversions?
Ha ha, what are those? If it's food, I want it.

Symptoms?
Still so hungry! Munching round the clock...is that what a newborn feels like?

Movement?
Yes! I have felt the same fluttery sensation several days in a row now. So neat. I love this part of pregnancy.

Gender?
The number one question I am asked these days is "so do you know what you're having yet?" But we don't, and we won't, until January!

What I’m looking forward to?
Wheels up for Vegas in just two days! Poolside relaxation, sleep, and uninterupted, grown-up conversation :) Plus I hear The Venetian Resort is quite the place!

What I miss?
This week, I will miss my boys while I'm away!

Weekly Wisdom?
Drink your water! I have experienced firsthand several times now how miserable being even a little dehydrated can make you. No fun.

Milestones?
Baby is on the move (well, technically, he or she has been on the move for weeks, it's just now G2 is big and strong enough to make his or her presence known) - woo hoo!

Teeny, tiny fluff

I'm an (extreme variety) of Type A personality. I like organization. I like lists. I like a plan. I love being ahead of the game. So it was no surprise to me that I got the itch to start shopping for newborn cloth diapers well before G2 was even a glimmer in my eye. We didn't start cloth diapering Sweets until he was 10 months old, so I didn't have anything in the way of newbie fluff. After doing some research (again with the Type A shining through), I decided I didn't want to commit to one single brand or system for our newborn stash, because there is a huge variation in the way babies are sized and shaped when they are born, and as a result, a huge variation in the way newborn cloth fits and functions.

Before I go on, here's a brief crash course in our cloth diapering choices so far: with Sweets we opted for one-size diapers, which are intended to fit from birth to potty training, due to their adjustable settings. However, the odds of a one-size diaper that can fit a 35 pound toddler also fitting a 7 pound newborn are pretty slim. We will definitely go the one-size route again with Baby #2, but I wanted to have a small stash of diapers specifically sized for itty-bitties until he or she grows into the one-size system. The thing about newborn diapers is that depending on your baby's size at birth and rate of growth, you may get to use them for a good couple of months, or maybe just a week or two! So the other factor at play is how much you are willing to spend on newborn cloth. I fell somewhere in the middle - I didn't want to spend a fortune, but neither did I want to feel totally constrained by price. Since they see such a limited amount of use, newborn dipes are often in excellent condition, and you can get great deals on them by shopping second-hand, which is what I opted to do. Over the course of several months, I browsed my favorite diaper swap site for diapers I was interested in at good prices. And the result is this newborn stash, which I am super excited to try out!

Newborn Pocket (stuffable) diapers:
Group C - 3 Alva baby newborn diapers
Group G - 3 Thirsties Duo pockets, size 1
Group A - The sage green diaper is a Blueberry mini deluxe, the ocean blue is a Fuzzibunz newborn, and the leopard print is a Happy Heiny mini

All-in-One diapers (as easy as a disposable - all one piece):
Group B - 6 THX newborn diapers
Group D - 2 Bumgenius newborn
Group E - 1 Imagine newborn
Group F - 2 work-at-home mom made diapers
Group A - the red diaper is a Tots Bots tiny fit, and the brown one is a Thirsties duo all-in-one, size 1

Prefolds and Covers (the classic cloth diaper choice!):
Group H - 1 dozen Osocozy stay-dry infant prefolds. So excited about these, since they include a layer of microfleece to wick away moisture, unlike traditional prefolds. 2 Thirsties covers, size newborn.
Group I - 1 dozen Green Mountain Diapers newborn prefolds (100% cotton). 2 Bummis super brite newborn covers.

All of these were purchased gently used, with the exception of the Imagine Newborn all-in-one, which was new, but on sale ;) The most cost-effective option are easily the prefolds, at about $12 a dozen - you can't beat $1 per diaper! I plan to mostly use those at home, and the pockets and all-in-ones, which tend to keep baby drier for longer, and are less bulky, for out and about and nighttime. The most expensive diaper was the Blueberry Mini Deluxe, coming in at $12. If I didn't really want to try that one, I would have passed it up, but considering that they go for around $20 apiece new, it was still a good deal. Imagine buying an entire stash of those!

You will also notice that the variety of colors and patterns is less than stellar. There are some positively adorable colors and prints for boys and girls, but, as we are not going to find out the sex of this baby, I was going for gender neutral. If it ends up being a little lady, you can best believe our one-size stash will get an infusion of pink and flowers!

14 Weeks

How far along?
14 weeks! Hello, second tri!

How big is baby?
The size of a lemon

Total weight gain?
Holding steady at +2 lbs for now

Maternity clothes?
I am definitely in that in-between stage...most of my regular bottoms don't fit, aside from sweats and yoga pants, but I am still too small for the majority of maternity bottoms. It's frustrating trying to get dressed in the morning.

Sleep?
Still need lots...still not getting enough...

Best moment of the week?
We had a great holiday weekend - the perfect mix of on-the-go fun and relaxation. Tough transition back to work on Monday!

Food cravings?
 All foods. All the time.

Food aversions?
Ha ha, what are those? If it's food, I want it.

Symptoms?
Not to beat a dead horse, but: Hunger. Broken out skin. Fatigue. Sound familiar?

Movement?
I had a moment a few days ago that made me wonder whether I was feeling some early baby gurgles...I woke up laying on my stomach in bed and felt that unique bubble-popping sensation, but I can't tell if it was truly movement or just gastrointestinal noise ;)

Gender?
STILL thinking pink...but if I had to put money on it, I'm not sure either way!

What I’m looking forward to?
My trip to Vegas next week with my mama! 4 days at The Venetian for the Advanced Placement conference with a side of (very tame) mother-daughter fun!

What I miss?
My face not looking like a connect-the-dots puzzle

Weekly Wisdom?
Maternity bathing suit shopping with a toddler is even less fun than it sounds.

Milestones?
Finally, the second trimester! Baby can do all kinds of things, including pee. That's so weird!

13 Weeks

How far along?
13 weeks - wow!

How big is baby?
The size of a peach, which have been tasting delicious to me lately. I eat one almost every day with breakfast.

Total weight gain?
Up a total of 2 pounds, according to the scale at my midwife's office.

Maternity clothes?
There was another maternity jeans sighting this week ;) What can I say? They're SO comfortable!

Sleep?
Know what's waking me up now? Hunger. I remember this from being pregnant with Sweets. I wake up either in the middle of the night or the wee hours of the morning ravenously hungry. There is no way I can go back to sleep until I get up and have a little snack. I've been choosing half a banana, because it's quick, easy and nutritious, but Hubs tells me it's really annoying when I eat them in bed. But it's cold out in the kitchen!

Best moment of the week?
Hearing the wonderous whoosh-whoosh-whoosh of G2's heart beating away!

Food cravings?
 All foods. All the time.

Food aversions?
Ha ha, what are those? If it's food, I want it.

Symptoms?
Not too many at this point. Still some sciactic pain now and then, which my midwife says will hopefully ease up when the uterus moves up and out of the pelvis in the next week or two.

Movement?
Hopefully not too much longer until I feel some!

Gender?
 Still thinking pink...

What I’m looking forward to?
The holiday weekend with friends and family, and finally, a break from work!

What I miss?
Being able to go more than 2 hours without dreaming about food (and subsequently needing to eat it). It's getting kind of old.

Weekly Wisdom?
When you're pregnant with #2, it is totally acceptable to catch a few zzzzs at 5 pm every day while watching PBS with your toddler.

Milestones?
Last week of the first trimester! Hearing G2's heartbeat via doppler. And someone who didn't know I'm pregnant asked me if I had a baby bump, so it gives me hope that I'm looking a little less pudgy and a little more pregnant!
